It’s time for a landscape. This time, I’m going to embrace the challenge of creating a luminous sunset. Follow along using this reference image: https://bit.ly/3hgz1gA

Today, I’m working with:
- Hahnemuhle Drawing Paper
- Vine Charcoal
- Charcoal Pencil
- Kneaded and Rubber Erasers
In this session, we’ll cover:
- Drawing a Sunset
- Realistic drawing techniques
- Drawing light
- Drawing clouds
- Controlling Proportions
Another challenge! It was so hard trying to make the marks look atmospheric, and not rhythmic and stripy.
Love sunsets! Would not have believed I’d like it in black & white, but it was fun, and I did.
Here’s my sunset. In charcoal. A totally new concept for a Caribbean girl lol! Loved the challenge!
My sunset… I toned the background with powdered charcoal and I got it too worked in, then my highlights wouldn’t erase brightly enough. Good lesson though!
Sorry the last one uploaded upside down. Please ignore!
I really enjoyed drawing this landscape and getting my hands dirty. I drew along with you and found it challenging but obtainable. Thanks again for your excellent instruction!
I don’t think I would have tried a sunset in just charcoal. So glad you’re doing these videos. Thanks
This is really good!
My sunset
Interesting. I laid SO much charcoal down…over and over and over again that i should have been hosed off in the yard afterwards. My result….nah…it’s okay, but… HA! I feel like I have some angry(and probably half drunk) guy in the sky!
I was head to toe in charcoal at the end I’d this lesson. Clothes in laundry and me in shower. Well worth it as I don’t do landscapes. Great learning experience
