Drawing Together Episode 22: Hi, Horse!
this episode is Part of the Drawing Together live video series – learn more here
Let’s look at how to draw a horse! I’ll see if we can figure out the form and proportions. We’ll be using line more in this drawing than in some of the other episodes. Let’s ride! Follow along with this reference image: https://bit.ly/2SBxxm7
Today, I’m working with:
- White Drawing Paper
- Ebony Pencil (or you can use a soft graphite pencil 4B-6B or darker)
- Charcoal Pencil
- Kneaded and Rubber Erasers
In this session, we’ll cover:
- Drawing a horse
- Realistic drawing techniques for pencil and charcoal
- Managing detail
I love your lines and I can really feel the horses mass and weight.
Something about uploading a photo helps me see the errors better…thanks for a great lesson.
Wonderful drawing this image! Loved the challenge 🙂
Here’s my attempt. Not quit sure about my line emphasis. Thank you Scott for sharing your techniques!
Thank you for sharing your work. This looks great! And thank you for sharing your granddaughter’s work as well. Amazing!
Very nice work here! This horse looks great!
In previous comment I meant to close with THANKS for another great lesson – can you correct??
Loved this lesson – Scott, you go slow and take your time with all these lessons. It’s probably the major thing I’ve taken away from it, and that’s not to rush.
Thanks for another great lesson
I did my own sketch and will post, but I thought It was great that my seven-year-old granddaughter did it with me. I was so pleased with her results but it was remarkable that when I suggested the back leg might be closer like Scott was doing in the lesson, she looked at me and said with confidence “no, I like it that way”. Good for her!
Kind of went off on my own and as I got caught in the moment! Love these learning experiences!
Enjoyed this segment a lot. Kind of went off on my own as I got caught up in the moment. Thank you so much for these lessons.
I’m enjoying drawing
This looks really good!
Very nice!
This looks great. Thanks for sharing!
Enjoying learning all the different techniques with these drawings.
Wow! This took me back to when I first started drawing as a kid. Horses were my favorite subject.
This was a challenge but fun!
Not as bad as we all thought it would be!
Very nice work, Irene! The shading looks great. It expresses the form nicely. Thanks for sharing!
This looks great! I’m glad the lessons are helping. There is some great drawing happening here, especially with your linework. Thank you for sharing!
Beautiful work! I love the linework in this drawing. It expresses the form nicely!
Enjoying the animal drawing lessons. Tough subject!
Oh, this was a difficult drawing for me. I struggle with animals and people, which is why these classes have been invaluable. I definitely plan on drawing/painting more horses. Thank you again for taking the time to post these classes.
I worried about drawing a horse, but got through and feel good about it. Thanks to Scott.
